Ridesharing in Cambridge

Carpool and Vanpool Matching

Massachusetts has a new travel options service provider, MassRIDES, which can help match you with a carpool or vanpool from your area. Charles River TMA works through MassRIDES to offer commuters in our area access to the largest ridematching database for the Boston area.

CRTMA Ridematching Registration Form

To register to recieve ridematching information, please fill out our form. This will be submitted to MassRIDES to be matched against the statewide database.

Vanpools

Vanpools are a great option for commuters travelling long distances (usually 50 miles or more). Vanpools offer quick, direct service, while still offering considerable cost savings over drive-alone commuting.

Currently, there are four vanpools serving Kendall Square with open seats. There are also many more vanpools which serve downtown Red Line stations, providing quick access to the Kendall Square area, as well as vans serving North Station, accessible to Cambridge via our EZRide Shuttle.

If you are interested in learning more about a specific vanpool listed below, call or email the contact person provided.

New Vanpools are now being formed!

Charles River TMA is working with VPSI to set up four new vanpools to Cambridge from the points on the compass. For employees with long commutes into Cambridge, there has never been a better time to explore this transportation option. Benefits of vanpooling include:

  • Time: Relax, work, sleep or read during your commute.
  • The cost of gas is split among the riders.
  • Reduce wear and tear on the family car.
  • Significant cost savings compared to driving alone.
  • Free or discounted parking in Cambridge.
  • No long term committment: 30-day pay as you go structure.
  • Emergency Ride Home (if you miss the van due to personal emergency or unscheduled overtime, you get a free taxi ride home).
  • The Commonwealth of Massachusetts offers significant startup incentives for which you will be eligible.

CRTMA and VPSI are focusing on four corridors for new vanpools:

  • Northeast - Route 95 corridor from Newburyport

  • North - Route 3 corridor from Nashua and Southern New Hampshire

  • West - Route 2 Corridor from North Central Massachusetts

  • South - Route 24 corridor Taunton/Stoughton/Brockton
